REMOVING DAMS TOGETHER – 3300 km (2000 miles) of Free-Flowing River!

by flymag.net

Let me introduce Estonia and it’s contribution to the movement for free flowing rivers. Estonia is a small and very beautiful Northern European country. Very interesting fact about this country, is that Estonia has the freest Internet in the World! In terms of ecology, Estonia is also very solid. For example, this country is removing dams! 151m wide and 4,5m high dam is being removed in Parnu river (Estonia). The river itself is 144 km long but together with all the tributaries (270 rivers and streams) it makes up to 3300 km (about 2000 miles) river basin! This river is the biggest historical salmon run in the country and now it runs free!  Project manager Külli Tammur together with a great team did a gigantic job. This magnificent project will take three years of hard work and a total budget of 15 million euros. But result will be invaluable. Thanks Guys for saving our nature! Keep removing dams together! Free the Rivers!
